No vote tonight on 24-hour bar ordinance

Goodnight Irene's, 2708 Pacific Ave.
Wildwood commissioners opted not to vote on a proposed ordinance that would allow city bars to remain open 24 hours a day, at a public hearing tonight at City Hall.

The meeting drew an overflow crowd with  many in attendance speaking out against the idea, which was proposed by Club Luna manager John Davis (after local bar owners originally asked that serving hours be extended from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.).

Mayor Gary DeMarzo said he remains behind the extension, but added that tighter restrictions and a more thorough implementation plan should be in place before the concept is revisited.

Fellow commissioner Al Brannen remains opposed to the idea.
