Happy 125th birthday, Anglesea!

Today marks the 125th anniversary of the incorporation of the borough of Anglesea, the predecessor of modern day North Wildwood.

Anglesea officially came into existence on June 13, 1885, the area previously consisting of portions of Middle Township. The borough was reincorporated in each of the follow two years.

The Borough of North Wildwood was incorporated on May 16, 1906, replacing Anglesea Borough. It would be reincorporated once again on April 30, 1917, finally being renamed the City of North Wildwood.

Though the Anglesea name was officially removed 96 years ago, the name has long been used in association with the northern portions of 5 Mile Beach, particularly the area adjacent to Hereford Inlet (which, quite literally, is situated at an angle to the Atlantic Ocean).
