Byrne Community Center NOT closing

The following city press release addresses recent rumors that the Byrne Community Center would be closing.

The 13,000-square ft. rec center is located at 401 W. Youngs Ave. It opened in Fall 2008.

WILDWOOD — After learning that incorrect rumors were circulating in the community regarding the City's intentions with respect to the Byrne Community Center, Interim Administrator Richard Deaney announced at last week's Commissioners' Meeting that the Center is not closing.

"In light of the reduction of available funds," Deaney said, "officials concluded that a slight reduction in hours will be necessary to make ends meet."

Under the tentative schedule, the Center will be open 6 days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., for an aggregate of approximately 80 hours per week.

Commissioners will be addressing the Center's personnel status in the coming week, and Deaney is working with other officials to finalize a schedule for the Center.
