What's up in the 'Wood: 5/24/10

Call it the calm before the storm (and that's "storm" in the figurative sense, we hope!).

There are no major events scheduled in the Wildwoods today or over the next three days. But, that will all change on Friday with the start of Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial kick-off to Summer 2010.

After that, nearly every day on the calendar up through Labor Day in September will feature some sort of special event or activity around the island.

Coming up...

* Kelly's Cafe at Atlantic & Montgomery Ave. will re-open on Thursday, and will be open seven days week from that point on. Follow Kelly's on Facebook HERE.

* Memorial Day Weekend begins on Friday with the Unlocking of the Ocean event at noon and the start of the four-day Wildwoods International Kite Festival and the three-day State Gymnastics Championships at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Also, Morey's Piers will unveil it's long-awaited mystery attraction - Ignis Fatuus ("Project 5292010") at a VIP ceremony at 11:45 p.m. at Mariner's Landing.

* Saturday will be headlined by the unveiling of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and "Celebration of Heroes Festival" at Fox Park, at noon. The afternoon will also feature Wildwood Crest's Centennial Celebration Kick-off and the first of several Boardwalk Craft Shows.

* On Monday, a special Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Veterans Monument (1st & Spruce) in North Wildwood. Also, the first annual Morey's Piers Curley Fry Festival is set for noon at Surfside Pier.

If you or your business/organization has information on additional events and activities in the Wildwoods - regardless of size - please drop us a line at wildwood365@gmail.com. We are more than happy to include any and all happenings on the island!
