The famed
Steel Pier in Atlantic City could become the first amusement pier in the country to utilize
wind power, according to
Jonathan Tamari of the
Philadelphia Inquirer's Trenton Bureau.
The pier's operators - the
Catanoso family - have a plan in place to install up to 10 wind turbines, which would offer a new attraction of sorts, while cutting the 150,000-square foot pier's energy bill.

State Senator
Jim Whelan, a former AC mayor, is sponsoring a bill that would allow the project to pass. He has cited the success of the
Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm (the first coastal wind farm in NJ), which became operational in late 2005.
The possibility of developing wind farms off the coast of other South Jersey coastal communities has been discussed in the past.
Could this be something we see in the Wildwoods in the future...?
