A popular, year round eatery in North Wildwood has closed after a decade-plus run.
Shoobie’s Good Eats made the announcement last night via social media, in a light-hearted post that suggested that the business will live on in the absence of a physical location by including the hashtags #shoobiespopups and #shoobiescatering.
Owners Joe & Nancy Rullo opened the cafe at 2501 New Jersey Avenue in 2010, and oversaw a streamlined exterior “restoration” in 2013. They quickly built a loyal following with a mantra that focused on quality and creativity, crafting an eclectic menu of signature sandwiches, burgers, wraps and more.
Shoobie’s favorites included The Day After (“Thanksgiving all over again”), blackened shrimp and tuna specials (wraps and tacos) and the Hot Mess (Nutella spread and marshmallow flush with mini-M&M’s, battered and deep fried), along with eight different varieties of fries and the ever-requested Seasonal Salad.
“Fourteen years of great food and great memories,” the Rullos posted. “The best part was watching all the kids who worked in the store, including our own two boys, grow up into awesome people. We will watch three of them get married this weekend coming up, and will always be there for all of them.
“Whatever the future holds for all of us is unclear, but we are family, and together anything is possible in always sunny North Wildwood.”
At this time, there is no word on what may take the place of Shoobie’s at the southeast corner of 25th & New Jersey. The recent sale of the building also included spaces 2503 - 2507 next door, the former home of Wildwood Glass. Signs are already in place for the arrivals of Shore Pro Builders and Window Hub... The now-former location of Shoobie's was previously home to Cafe jonpaul and, going back a few more years, Al The Steak King & Pizza... Standing at the other end of the 2500 block of New Jersey (east side), in its own building, is Sand Jamm 5 Mile.
