Update on daily Boardwalk playing of the National Anthem

The playing of the National Anthem every morning on the Boardwalk has become a beloved summertime tradition in the Wildwoods.

Over the past week or so, we've received numerous inquiries from readers asking why they haven't been hearing the song at its usual 11 am time, along with any other announcements.

This morning, the City of Wildwood announced that recent damage to the Boardwalk's sound system has left overhead speakers inoperable in some sections.

Patrick Rosenello, executive director of the Wildwood Business Improvement District (WBID) and Wildwood Boardwalk Special Improvement District (WSID), provided an additional update:

"During some routine maintenance of the Boardwalk, sections of the fiber optics that run the Boardwalk Sound System were damaged," Rosenello explained. "The damaged sections are south of Schellenger Avenue. The damage has been assessed and material has been ordered for the repair.

"At this time, we are not releasing an exact time for completion of the repair because the extent of the damage will not be known until the repair work begins."
