It’s no longer a surprise to hear of event cancellations due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, but each one stings in a different way.
This afternoon, we learned that Capt. Kidd Pirate Day, one of our favorite North Wildwood traditions, will not take place this year.
The annual masquerade, highlighted by a Boardwalk parade and treasure hunt, was to take place on Saturday, May 16.
In its place, North Wildwood Recreation & Tourism has announced a virtual pirate costume contest, open to anyone, anywhere, up to age 12.
Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite pirate-themed costumes and submit photos via email to nwrec@northwildwood.com.
The age categories are 5 and Under, 6-8 and 9-12. Please include child’s name, age and town they reside in.
The contest begins Monday, May 4 and ends Saturday, May 16.
Winners will be announced the week of Monday, May 18th and all participants will have their photos posted on North Wildwood Recrration & Tourism’s social media pages (Facebook, Instagram).
Judges will chose three winners from each age group, with each receiving a $25 gift card.
There will also be a grand prize of $100, along with two $50 gift cards, chosen randomly (by computer) from all of the costume contest submissions.
