Wildwood officials comment on President Trump's visit
PRESS RELEASE
WILDWOOD - On January 28, 2020, the City of Wildwood, NJ hosted the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, during what would normally be an uneventful time of year. Instead, this sleepy little island community hosted thousands of visitors and put its best foot forward.
"We cannot be more proud of our city employees for stepping up and going above and beyond for this event," said Commissioner Steven Mikulski.
The Police, Fire and Public Works Departments were all mobilized and took direction from the Trump Campaign and Secret Service. The collaboration was well choreographed and sophisticated. The City of Wildwood staff was prepared, willing and able to handle the task. While the aftermath of the event was one of immense debris, the Wildwood Public Works staff, along with the Convention Center staff, had everything cleaned up and sparkling by noon on Wednesday.
The heart of the island community really shined, when citizens gathered blankets and chairs that were left behind, and donated them to local organizations that help those in need, as well as to animal shelters.
This entire effort was made possible with the help and assistance of the neighboring communities of Wildwood Crest, North Wildwood and the County of Cape May. Working together to make this event happen showed the strength of the Wildwoods' community, and keeps the door open for future opportunities.
"Together we have successfully demonstrated what this small community can do when tasked with a challenge of this magnitude. We have sworn to protect our community and to provide the absolute best in police services, regardless if it is to protect the President of the United States or the residents of Wildwood," said Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto.
The Wildwood Fire Department was also up to the challenge. "As a result of the coordinated efforts, commitment and hard work by all agencies involved, the Wildwood Fire Department was able to manage any and all fire/medical responses in a quick and efficient manner," said Wildwood Fire Department Deputy Chief Ernie Troiano III.
"We look forward to working together as an island community on these and other types of events and issues," said Commissioner Krista Fitzsimons. Soon, the island will see events such as the Barefoot Country Music Fest, the Wildwoods Airshow and the always well-attended 4th of July Celebration.
"We want to thank our Police, Fire and Public Works Departments for making us so proud, and we are also grateful to the Wildwoods Convention Center staff for their seamless organization of this event," said Mayor Pete Byron. "Wildwood is ready and able to take on events like this and look forward to our future."
