As you may recall, principle shooting for a movie called "Wetlands" took place in and around the Wildwoods back in the spring of last year.
Not much been heard about the project since, until today.
"Wetlands Productions" has announced that the film will be released on Friday, September 15 - in select theaters.
"Wetlands," which stars Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Heather Graham and Christopher McDonald, tells the story of a crooked Philadelphia cop who relocates to the Jersey Shore to reaconnect with his estranged family.
It also "explores the murky world of crime beneath the surface of a boardwalk beach town, when all the summer tourists have fled for warmer pastures."
Obviously, this is a fictionalized account. We are very interested in seeing how the Wildwoods are portrayed.
Early indications, in fact, are that the island was used as a "stand-in" for Atlantic City. Also notable is the movie poster here, which clearly depicts a scene from Seaside Heights, post Superstorm Sandy (there's that roller coaster, yet again).
Vanity Fair has posted a good write-up on the film, which highlights first-time director Emanuele Della Valle's inspiration for the screenplay.
The piece also includes an exclusive first look at the film's official trailer, which includes several easily identifiable Wildwoods locations.
