Wildwood Fire Department Swears In New Chief, First Female Firefighter

PRESS RELEASE

June 1 is a day that will go down in the history of the Wildwood Fire Department as one that included the swearing in of its first female firefighter and the swearing in of a second-generation fire chief.

Before a packed room filled with officials, family, friends and fellow firefighters from throughout the area, Firefighter Christina Sacco took her oath of office from Municipal Judge Dorothy Garabrant.

Sacco, a lifelong resident of the city, is the daughter of Wildwood Fire Department Capt. Aldo Sacco and Lea Sacco, who served as a part-time volunteer firefighter in the city and now serves as an EMT in the borough of Wildwood Crest.

When Chief Daniel Speigel rose to take his oath of office from Garrabrant, Speigel’s family, including his father, retired Wildwood Fire Chief Floyd Speigel, stood next to him as he was promoted from deputy fire chief.

This is only the second time in the department’s 104 year-old-history that a second-generation firefighter has carried on the tradition of leading the department.
