Have you imagined yourself in a cockpit of a WWII fighter? Want to try your hand at being an air traffic controller? Now through the end of March, embark on the special Cape May-Lewes Ferry vehicle package to “Touch Aviation History” for a day!
Get a chance to relive the past at Naval Air Station Wildwood in Cape May County. Renovated and restored to look and feel as it did years ago, this site brings to life an important chapter in South Jersey’s history.

A hidden gem in South Jersey, the museum is one of the few remaining World War II-era wooden truss hangars in the United States. “Unlike other museums, we encourage our visitors to be hands-on as they explore aviation history,” said Dr. Joseph Salvatore, the aviation museum’s director. “We feature great education activities for the entire family so bring the kids and don’t forget your camera!”
Commissioned in April 1943, NAS Wildwood served as an active dive-bomber squadron training facility during World War II. Today, Hangar #1 has been restored and transformed into an Aviation Museum that houses a number of aircraft, engines, special exhibits, and educational interactive displays.
Get the chance to climb a real traffic control tower or sit in an aircraft cockpit for a ride back through time. View 26 planes & helicopters up close or try your hand at being a pilot with the Museum’s flight simulator games.
The package is available Monday through Friday until March 31, 2013. The ferry departs Lewes for Cape May at 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. and customers may return to Lewes on any afternoon departure. Advanced reservations are required.
The all-inclusive price for one vehicle and driver is $50.50. The price for an additional passenger 13 years of age or older is $14.50 while a child (3-12) is $12.50 per person. Children 2 years old or younger are free.
The package includes round trip ferry passage, entry into the museum, a NASW souvenir and 10% discount at the NASW Aviation Museum gift shop. Pet friendly, the museum’s open rain or shine.
