WILDWOOD – A “Boardwalk Block Party” celebrating the grand opening of Capt’n Jacks Island Grill along with the Palace of Sweets, the home of the new “Adventure Maze,” and Hot Spot Cafe is planned for Thursday, June 10 at 4:00 p.m. between Juniper and Poplar Avenues on the Wildwoods Boardwalk.
These three new establishments, together with Joe’s Fish Co., Stewart’s, Sam’s Pizza and the Sand Jamm Surf Shop further extend the Boardwalk Special Improvement District’s (BSID) vision for a more unique boardwalk experience.
“We’re throwing a boardwalk block party to celebrate some exciting new businesses’ along the boardwalk. They join with us and others to kick the boardwalk experience up a notch,” says EJ Dougherty, an owner of Stewart’s and Capt'n Jacks.
Notes Jack Morey, executive Vice President of the Morey Organization, “We are exceedingly pleased to work with tenants that invest in the long term. We thank the BSID (Boardwalk Special Improvement District) and the City of Wildwood for their vision in creating design guidelines that encourage these kind of investments.”
The partnership behind Capt’n Jacks Island Grill is also behind Stewart’s restaurant at Magnolia Avenue and the Boardwalk. Following the success of Stewart’s, the partnership turned towards Capt’n Jacks to offer the boardwalk a new, laid-back, island-themed menu and atmosphere.
The spectacular new Palace of Sweets is also home to the boardwalk’s newest family attraction, the Adventure Maze. Designed by one of the United Kingdom’s top designers, Adrian Fisher, the maze mixes 75 varieties of candy and adventure into a one-of-a-kind experience. There is also a “Vault” Laser Maze Challenge a try as well.
Bob Masterson, former CEO of Ripley Entertainment and past Chairman of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) brings this new attraction to the Wildwoods:
"I have visited more than 100 countries during my 36 years with Ripley's, and more recently with IAAPA, but when I decided to start my own business, I decided on the Wildwoods. Its classic seaside landscape and culture is unique in the world and reminds me of the hay day of places like Coney Island. The Wildwoods know that what they have is special and have given me the confidence to invest.”
Also adding new flare to the boardwalk “block” is the Hot Spot Café, the 6th “Hot Spot” brought by a family that has been operating for over 30 years under the entrepreneurial leadership of Harry Karavangelos.
Hot Spot Café is a partnership between Harry’s family members Haroula Papazoglou, George Papazoglou, and Marko Pardalios and takes the Hot Spot concept to a new level. Says Haroula, “This new location is the farthest we have expanded to the north and we are very pleased to be a part of such a high energy block.”
