Skylark re-opening date still uncertain

I had a brief conversation today with an employee of the Brittany Motel, who informed me that the owners are "still unsure" as to whether or not its sister property, the Skylark Motel, will re-open at any point this year.

The Skylark, one of the island's original "Doo Wop" institutions (1956), suffered significant structural damage and had rooms on both the ground and second floor gutted as a result of a mid-December fire.

Two weeks later, following an investigation, four persons were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Throughout the winter months, the Skylark sat quiet, with the damaged area boarded up and little activity reported on site. Recently, the boards were removed and the rooms that suffered fire and water damage were stripped to their concrete walls.

We will continue to post updates on the progress of the motel's rehabilitation, as well as word on a possible re-opening, whenever we receive it.

In the meantime, the Brittany will continue to book guests until October. Check out the motel's recently-redesigned website here.
