Steve’s Prince of Steaks, a Philadelphia staple for over four decades, will open its much-anticipated location in Wildwood on Saturday, April 20.
From that point, the window-service eatery will be open seven days a week, from 11 am to 8 pm. Hours will be extended as the summer season nears. The location is being prepped to stay open year-round, a company rep previously confirmed to Wildwood 365.
It was around this time last year that Steve’s announced plans to expand to New Jersey for the first time, as the shop at 2701 New Jersey Avenue (the former home of Classic Sandwiches) began to take shape.
In February, the fully-renovated property showed off its vibrant new exterior lighting package, crafted and installed by A.B.S. Sign Co. The finished look echoes the institution’s classic look while paying tribute to the Wildwoods’ “Doo Wop”-themed tradition.
This will be Steve’s fourth location, with two in Northeast Philly, including the original on Bustleton Avenue, and one in Langhorne.
Steve’s Prince of Steaks was founded by Steven Iliescu in 1980, at the corner of Bustleton Avenue & St. Vincent Street, near Cottman Avenue. Its signature cheesesteaks are made with “thinly sliced, sauteed rib-eye beef and melted cheese (generally American, as opposed to provolone) on a long, crusty roll.”
Each Steve’s location features a full menu of options, including sandwiches, burgers, fries and sides. The Wildwood shop will be no different.
It’s arrival continues a trend of favorites from the City of Brotherly Love that have expanded or moved to the Wildwoods in recent years, including Steak ‘Em Up in 2019, Antney’s Grub in 2020 (with new flagship store in 2023), Barry’s Buns in 2021 and Santucci’s Original Square Pizza in 2022.
The addition of Steve’s also “beefs up” the busy New Jersey Avenue corridor near the North Wildwood-Wildwood border, joining neighboring year-round businesses like Green’s Liquors (right across Juniper Ave), Sand Jamm 5Mile (one block north at 26th Ave) and fellow newcomer The Shore Eat (taking over for the departed Shoobie’s at 25th & New Jersey).
Seasonal landmark Larkin’s Restaurant is right across New Jersey Avenue, while Oasis by Seaport, a 1.75-acre residential and luxury rental complex by BG Capital, opened two blocks to the south last summer.
