Re-Awakening 2022: Opening dates and details for Mack’s Pizza, Curley’s Fries, Sightseer Tram Cars and more…

We are making daily additions to our list of Opening Dates for 2022, as returning businesses (and plenty of NEW ones) make preparations for the upcoming season.

With a later-than-usual Easter Weekend this year - April 15-17 - a good number of seasonal shops and eateries are planning to open their doors over the next two weekends, so long as the weather cooperates.

This coincides with the Wildwoods’ events schedule kicking into gear. From this point on, signature events will take place virtually every weekend until late fall. The Wildwoods Convention Center will host three cheer competitions over the first two weekends of April; the Fallen Hero Polar Plunge and MudHen Brewing Co. IPA 5K & Beer Mile are both set for Saturday, April 9.

Every year, as the island begins to wake from its winter slumber, we are asked most about the returns of three beloved institutions: Mack’s Pizza, Curley’s Fries and the Sightseer Tram Cars.

And we now have some answers!

Mack’s Pizza
, one of the oldest businesses on the Boardwalk and certainly the island’s longest continually-operated pizzeria, is changing things up out of necessity this year. Traditionally, the original, “flagship” location at Wildwood Avenue opens Palm Sunday Weekend. However, due to the ongoing Boardwalk renovation in that area, Mack’s will be opening its Roberts Avenue shop first, and a week earlier than usual, on Friday, April 1.

As with most Boardwalk businesses, Roberts Avenue will be open weekends only until later in the spring, when it will go to an everyday schedule.

An opening date for Wildwood Avenue will be determined as the Boardwalk renovation moves along. Obviously, the work will affect businesses in varying ways, as it proceeds north from Oak Avenue to Maple Avenue (covering three blocks total). Last week, Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron expressed confidence that the work will be fully completed in advance of Memorial Day Weekend.

At any rate, when Mack’s Wildwood Avenue shop opens, it will mark it’s 70th season of operation, dating back to 1953!

Unfortunately, Morey’s Piers will not be open for Easter Weekend this year. Opening Weekend at Mariner's Pier has been pushed back to April 29-30, while Surfside Pier and Adventure Pier will open May 21 and May 27, respectively.

According to Morey’s spokesperson Maggie Wisniewski, food stands at the front of Mariner’s and Surfside Piers will be open for Palm Sunday Weekend (April 8-10), including Curley’s Fries at Surfside; exact days and times TBD.

For Easter Weekend, Curley’s Fries locations at both Mariner’s and Surfside will be open; dates and times TBD. Both piers will again have select game and food stands open, Friday through Sunday from 11:30 am to 6 pm.

Opening and closing times are weather, staffing and business dependent.

Mariner’s Arcade, located at the south base of Mariner’s Pier at Boardwalk & Oak Avenue, will open for the season this Saturday, April 2.

For those looking for seasonal employment, Morey’s Piers is currently hiring for various positions at for up to $16.50 per hour (with a number of perks).

Additionally, Morey’s Piers’ Annual Spring Sale, offering savings of up to 15 percent on Wild Passes, ticket cards, water park admission and more, is going on now through April 22.

To many, the summer season in the Wildwoods begins once the familiar refrain of “WATCH THE TRAM CAR, PLEASE!” returns to the Boardwalk. Due to the renovation project between Oak and Maple Avenues, the iconic Sightseer Tram Cars will roll out a little later than usual.

According to Patrick Rosenello, executive director of the Wildwood Business Improvement District (WBID) and Wildwood Boardwalk Special Improvement District (WSID), the trams will begin running for weekends on Friday, May 20 - a week before Memorial Day Weekend.

Rosenello said that the trams will probably go to an everyday schedule on or around Tuesday, June 14. That’s two days before the four-day Barefoot Country Music Festival opens on the beach and about a week before the first day of summer (Monday, June 20), when the Wildwoods’ event calendar kicks into high gear.
