The Cape May County Board of Freeholders passed a resolution to acknowledge the community service efforts of a county resident.
The Director of Sales and Entertainment at the Wildwoods Convention Center, John Lynch, was honored by President Donald Trump with the Corporation for National and Community Service Lifetime Achievement Award by performing over 4,000 hours of community service.
The County Freeholders honored Lynch with a resolution at the Tuesday May 8 Freeholder Meeting for the award. The resolution was introduced by Freeholder Vice Director Len Desiderio and passed unanimously.
“John (Lynch) has been a terrific advocate for the children in need, not just in Wildwoods but throughout the entire county,” said Desiderio. “We are truly proud to provide this resolution to him tonight.”
Lynch started the Lunch with Lynch foundation back in 2007, which provides children of the Wildwoods with opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. He has also had a long history of helping other charities raise money as well.
“My family has known John for many years,” said Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. “We are lucky to have someone like John in our community for our kids. The award he received from the President is very well deserved.”
Lynch used the chance in front of the Freeholder Board to talk about his new initiative, “Thumbs Up for Kindness.” All the Freeholders and staff present at the meeting got a wristband and a smiley face on their thumb for a photo.
The new program is one he will be working with local schools on, as well as a couple of national schools to instill kindness in the youth. The program is supported by the Philadelphia Phillies, Ron Jaworski, and several local businesses.
