Baseball Comes to Wildwood’s Beach
PRESS RELEASE
The summer of 2016 is bringing America’s favorite pastime to America’s favorite beach.
For two days in August, the sounds of a cracking bat, arcing ball and the cheers of spectators will be heard as part of Wildwood’s Baseball on the Beach Tournament.
This exciting tournament, supported by Wildwood Beach Services, will bring teams of players, aged 9 – 12, from throughout the nation to experience this inaugural event. Teams are divided into four divisions, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U, with a maximum number of four teams for each level.
“Wildwood is thrilled to be hosting Baseball on the Beach,” said Commissioner Pete Byron.
According to organizers, four playing fields will be set up on the Rio Grande Avenue beach that will enable simultaneous games. Seating areas will be provided to allow spectators to not only enjoy the game but to also enjoy panoramic views of the beach, ocean and boardwalk.
“The response to Baseball on the Beach has been tremendous,” said tournament organizer Marc DeBlasio. “We’re getting great momentum.”
The tournament format calls for pool play, where teams play two games and then are reseeded for elimination games. Each team is guaranteed three games, with the winner of each division game playing in a championship game on Sun. Aug. 21.
