Photo Update: The Lamp Post Diner disappears into history

We reported on Christmas Eve that demolition had finally begun on the Lamp Post Diner, a long-neglected landmark nestled in the northeast corner of the island.

The accompanying photos, snapped this morning, were sent to us by North Wildwood Administrative Assistant Ron Simone.

While it's always bittersweet to see an island icon fade into history, it was realistically only a matter of time before the Lamp Post was razed. The derelict diner had sat vacant for at least 15 years and had long since passed the point of saving.

The question now is, what will take it's place?

Stay tuned...

***************

As for the Lamp Post itself, the diner had long run and a rather fascinating history, originally a 1939 Paramount model called the North Star Diner.

Look for a feature story from our newest staff writer, diner enthusiast and architectural historian Jackson Betz later this week.
