As we prepare to enter into a new season in the Wildwoods, the island is typically abuzz - mostly with positive vibes and excitement.
Unfortunately, we have some sad news to report, just two days before the start of Memorial Day Weekend.
Duffy's On The Lake, a longtime landmark at New Jersey & Farragut Avenues in the Crest, was demolished earlier today.
The news of its demolition comes as little surprise, as rumors have been circulating for some time; still, it's unsettling to see such a classic institution fall to the wrecking ball.
The restaurant closed after the 2013 season and sat vacant all of last year. There was initially some hope that it would eventually reopen, but it was not to be.
Duffy's was best known for its iconic location directly across from Sunset Lake. Generations of visitors enjoyed spectacular views at sundown as they enjoyed their meals in the restaurant's spacious dining room.
In a heartbreaking twist, the sun has now gone down on yet another legendary Wildwoods establishment.
We have no official word yet on what will take it's place, other than "a future development."
So don't hold your breath for a new restaurant or other business...
(Though we would LOVE to be proven wrong!)
