Hotel Icona expansion approved

Hotel Icona in Diamond Beach (Lower Township) has been given the green light to expand, according to The Press of Atlantic City.

The details of the plan were first reported in the Cape May County Herald earlier this month.

Developer Eustace Mita is aiming to add 22 units, including a sixth floor that would house 20 penthouse suits. The project, estimated at $4.5 million, is expected to begin after the coming summer season, with completion targeted for June 2016.

Presently, the oceanfront boutique hotel boasts 108 suites and "studios," in addition to the Coastal Blue Oceanside Grill.

Originally the Pier 6600 Motor Inn (built in the early 1970s), the structure underwent a dramatic, upscale makeover, reopening as Hotel Icona in 2013.
