Update on Fall motorsports events

Rumors and speculation continue to swirl about the status of Wildwood's motor sports events scheduled for late September and early October.

While there is nothing official to report yet, here's what we've learned...

Members of the Hotel/Motel Association met yesterday with Mayor Ernie Troiano and city commissioners at City Hall to try to work out a solution. The Wildwood BID and the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce have also extended their support to the events.

Meetings will likely continue today, and an announcement of some sort is expected to be made very soon.

The objective is to ensure that three major events - The Boardwalk Classic Car Show (Sept. 20-23), Thunder on the Beach Monster Truck Competition (Sept. 28-30), and Thunder in the Sand Motocross) go on as planned.

As previously reported, New Jersey Thunder Motorsports (ThunderMoto), the Sewell-based company that had been running Wildwood's motor sports events, announced on Tuesday that it was cancelling the aforementioned events "due to the differences between the corporation and the City of Wildwood and other circumstances."

  3. Hey Hotel/Motel Association take over the motorcross racing. I've racing Wildwood for 8 years now. Sounds funny but that raqce is like my vaction. I got my friends and family that comes down to see my race. I guaranteed the motorcross races will bring the money for the end of season. I under stand that you guy need alot of staff to make this event. But if you saw the motorcross event that was in June you shouldn't even have to think about doing you should just do it. I guess it was the fire marsall or something like that they bwere not letting more people in the pits because of how many racers show up and there family and friends. Also I no that the october race is never as busy as the June race. I still believe you will be making a decent amount of money. Hotel $500, to get into the pit $25 per person, each race is $30, practice is $15, friday night test&tune $10, plus food, drinks, and you cant go to wildwood with out going on the boards. Right away I'm spending $635 I pay for me and girfriend to get into the pit. I pay for the practice, the test and tune, and i race 2 races. that $635 doesn't even include food or drinks and I'm just small racing team. My name is Chris Schultz. I race Quad 450B class. I hope that someone from the Hotel/Motel Association see this.
