“Watch the Tram Car, Please” becomes “Watch the Globetrotters, Please”
The Globetrotter-packed Tram Car will begin its ride down the boardwalk at the “WILDWOODS” sign at Rio Grande Avenue and proceed to 15th Street. The Tram Car ride precludes the Globetrotters exclusive east coast summer appearance at the Wildwoods Convention Center for a four-game series from Wednesday, August 8 through Saturday, August 12.
Floss Stingel, the voice behind “Watch the Tram Car, Please”, stepped behind the microphone last year for the first time since 1971 to re-record her famous announcement to say “Watch the Globetrotters, Please” especially for the Harlem Globetrotters’ 2011 premiere ground-breaking summer visit to the Wildwoods; and Wildwoods officials are excited to reload and play the unique recording for this 2012 encore Tram Car ride by the Globetrotters.
Stingel’s original recording in 1971, ironically, occurred the same year as the Globetrotters last lost to the Washington Generals (January 5, 1971 in Martin, Tennessee). Another interesting fact is that Greyhound, the company that supplies the Globetrotters’ transportation around the country, manufactured the original Wildwoods’ Tram Cars for the 1939 World’s Fair.
The Globetrotters will play a four-game series at the Wildwoods Convention Center from Wednesday, August 8 through Saturday, August 11; with games nightly at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the games are available at www.harlemglobetrotters.com. Tickets are also available at www.ticketmaster.com or the Wildwoods Convention Center Box Office.
